Be Well: David Burtka's Special Holiday Jam Collaboration with Husband Neil Patrick Harris & Beth's Farm Kitchen

Our first guest is an accomplished TV, film and Broadway actor. And if that's not enough, he's also a professional chef. Amazing, right. This holiday, he has the perfect recipe for entertaining guests and also supporting a great cause we want to welcome David to the show. Thanks so much for being with us. My pleasure, guys. This is so great. I know. I love this script that you have. We wanna get to this in a minute but first we gotta get personal with you. Oh, great, great. I know. Right. Well, you and your husband, you know Neil Patrick Harris, you guys, we love your post on social media with the family. So what do you love doing during the holidays with the family? It's really about being together. You know, we live such crazy high, fast paced lives. It's really about just slowing down having a meal with the family. That's where my kids shine is they can sit for three hours and just talk and eat and it's so much fun. And your twins are 13 years old. Yes, I mean when I can get them to hang out with me, I don't want to do anything, anything to do with me anymore. Yeah, it's really, you know, we like to watch movies. We like to slow down, take long walks. Are there any additions you like to make sure you do every year? Like, ok, guys, we gotta go do this, you know, uh, our parents, both sets of parents get along. Really? Really well. That's Neil's family and my family. So they're coming in actually this weekend and we have a bunch of stuff planned. That's usually a celebration we like to do. Neil works at Disney every year for the candlelight processional. We just did that last week. Uh We always go out Christmas Eve for dinner because I don't wanna cook too much Christmas dinner. We'll do a nice big Christmas dinner and a brunch in the morning. But, but usually Christmas Eve, we'll go out somewhere nice and, and, and not have to deal with dishes. And now when you're entertaining, is this the cocktail that, that your guests receive? Well, this year, I've never made it before, but possibly because, you know, it's, it's, it's made with the jam. Ok. Well, there's jam in there. Yes. So you can take jam and like shake it up and make a cocktail from it. That's the sweetener. So you actually partnered with City Harvest, right? So, talk to me about this jam. So, um it's really interesting. My, one of my best friends growing up from uh Detroit Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, uh a girl named Jody Emmett, her and her husband Guillermo have a farm in the Hudson Valley and they bought Best Farm Kitchen, which is a jamming company. So she called me up. She goes, would you ever think about doing some sort of collaboration together? And I said, uh duh, so, like, just get to talk to you on the phone. It's, it's, it's fun to sort of work with your friends, of course. And she said, let's do uh some sort of something we thought about hot sauce or pickles or sauces, some sort of sauce. And I said everybody loves jam for the holidays. It's a good seller. Um Let's, let's make a jam and then give the proceeds to city harvest. So we ended up with city harvest. Uh all the proceeds from this jam uh go to it. I made the recipe Neil and I came up with the logo. I was gonna say jam sessions, sessions. It's sort of like a take on, you know, records and jamming for a good cause. And, and it's uh a merry winter cherry cherries from the Finger Lakes of New York City uh made in the Hudson Valley. So it's got a really nice cherry flavor that tartness, but also some warm flavors for the holidays with clove and allspice and cinnamon. So it's super yummy with a nice cup of tea or in the morning for Christmas or you mentioned drink. Let's get into this one. How did you put the jam in this one? You just take the jam and dilute it with some, uh, water. Shake it up and put some rosemary sprig on it. That's it. Take a sip. OK, let me try that. And what else is in this? Just jam? The jam, some seltzer water and some rosemary feels clean it and not too heavy. This is just a little spritz. It's like an accent. Yeah, but it's, it's also like Christmas 100%. And now this is if we wanted to use the jam for a dessert, I mean, that's, these two are both two recipes using the jam. So this is a peanut butter sort of take on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But peanut butter and jam rice krispie treats you make peanut butter rice Krispies. But instead of um just doing one big layer, you cut it in half and put a layer of jam in the middle. So it's a take on peanut butter and jelly. Oh, I love it. It is actually really good. I'm not gonna eat too much because I'll eat the whole plate too much. But this is delicious. And you have one other thing here, Tosto cookies. Have you seen these on tiktok? It's a viral thing everybody's doing right. You basically make a indent with uh when the cookies you know, soft and then you fill it in with jam and then you take icing and you just pipe in little dots uh for icing. I love that. It's a great for the holidays and the kids help with this too. Right? If you don't, if they don't eat them. All right. Thank you very much.
