On A Positive Note: Camp Counselor Becomes Local Hero After Saving Choking Camper

On a Positive Note

A show of gratitude over on Long Island. And our first one for one teenage camp counselor whose quick thinking actions led him to saving one young camper's life. The amount of gratitude that young camper's family has for the man that saved their daughter. Oh my goodness. Here's your first hand. Look at that miraculous story. That's got the community hailing that young man, a hero, take a look at three village recreation camp in ISA talk. It was a lunch period. Campers won't soon forget. I was pretty scared. On Tuesday, 10 year old Laie Mila was and eating with friends. When suddenly the lunch break turned into no laughing matter. I was eating lunch with my friends and one of my friends made me laugh and I started choking on the carrot. And my friends were asking me questions like, are you ok? Do you need me to get someone? One of Laney's friends ran over to camp counselor Ronald Richardson for help. At first I was like, wait what I process in my mind and then I was looking and she was in the corner with both her hands on her neck, choking all red. I couldn't breathe. So it just felt weird. I immediately just sprung into action and just ran over to her and did the heimlich maneuver once and then she was able to swallow the carrot. And then when I could breathe, I was really thankful, Ronald who's 17 learned the life saving technique in health class at Ward Melville High School two years ago, Laney is his first save. Ronald obviously did a very good job in keeping her safe. Laney's mother couldn't be more grateful. I think as 17 years old, it was incredible. He obviously kept a cool head, stayed calm and really, you know, came at the situation, this could happen to anyone. So it's very good that everyone should know how to do the basics of a high CPR. All of that. As for Laney, the fifth grader says carrots are off her lunch menu for the foreseeable future, but her newly minted hero will always be a welcome part of her life. He's really nice and I think he's my favorite counselor. Too. Sweet. That one just gets me. Thank God for Ronald.
